How can I contact dotMAC to talk to a person? dot Mac does have a channel to contact support and states that they will reply within 48 hours. This can be found by going to http://www.apple.com/support/dotmac/ click on the area that you have a question about and then go to the bottom of the page to see the form to request feedback from support. | What is a good OCR program and about how much would it cost? OmniPage Pro- Premier OCR has always been the OCR software of choice and can be located at http://www.omnipage.com However, most scanners these days come with their own OCR software that usually does an acceptable job. |
| How can I transfer music albums/songs from one computer to iTunes on another computer? It's easy enough to move the files, but it would be easier to simply queue up your entire iTunes Library, including the XML docs to transfer. The information regarding play counts, ratings or etc. - are all proprietary items that iTunes does itself and dumps into an XML file within your library. If you just copy the entire library into the place of the existing library on your new PB, the next time you open iTunes, it should pull up all your songs, ratings, play counts, etc. etc. |
| I downloaded 9.2.1 and the disk is "locked" what happened? It appears that the file burned to the CD is the stuffed archive of 9.2.1 and it was attempting to unstuff itself to the CD rather than the desktop. Unstuffing the 9.2.1 installer prior to burning it to CD would eliminate this roadblock. |

| I have a G3 Powerbook Laptop: Often when I am using it while plugged in, it will not turn off. I must then unplug it, wait until the battery goes down then start it up and have it repair itself. What can I do instead? Some G3s allow you to hold the powerkey down until the computer shuts down, all the new models have this feature. If this is not available, try removing the power supply and then remove the battery. |

| Is it necessary to empty the Download Manager Folder? It is not necessary, but a personal choice. the download manager is simply a record of files that have been downloaded and the status of that download. |

How can I launch programs like Word or Explorer on STARTUP in OSX, like I can in OS9? |
| When I print in Classic mode I am given the message, "No printer recognized" Printer Drivers (for OS9) need to be installed separately to be available to applications running in Classic mode. Also, the printer needs to be selected in the Classic Chooser, the same as it would have been when running Native OS9. |
| How does one transfer the address Book from a PC to the Mac?? We will assume that the address book in question is in Entourage (MS Office) on the PC. These can be exported to a text file, tab delimited, which can then be imported into Outlook Express (OS9) or Entourage (OS X). These can also be exported to "V Cards" which can be imported into OSX Address Book. |
| How do you cancel a long printing output? OS 9: Open print monitor (print spooler) and select print job then delete or stop all print jobs. OS X: Active printer should be visible in Dock - click to open printer settings - or go to printer through System Preferences. Select printer or print job and stop or delete. Another option is to remove all paper from printer, or power, and wait for error alert -- then cancel print jobs. |
